Today is National Pet Day, a day centered around appreciating and caring for your beloved furry (or not-so-furry) friend in more ways than one. But if you’re an avid pet owner, it might seem like every day is National Pet Day. So, use this special day to think outside of the box—even if that’s your pet’s favorite place.
MORE THAN “JUST AN ANIMAL”
Those with a dislike for animals or owning pets are seriously missing out. Not just on the fun of having such a loyal companion, but also on the health benefits of owning a pet. You heard that right—your furry friend can actually improve your overall health!
It seems many U.S. households unconsciously know this, seeing as 68% of them own some sort of pet, albeit dog, cat, iguana or sugar glider. In a 2018 collaboration with Mars Corporation’s WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition, News in Health (NIH) has proved to us that we shouldn’t live without pets.
Though the research is relatively new, interaction with animals has been linked to decreasing the stress-related hormone, cortisol, as well as lower blood pressure and improve your mood. This is precisely why therapy dogs visit hospitals frequently. And, one study showed that animal aids in a classroom improved children’s ADHD symptoms, keeping their focus longer.
LEARN FROM MILLENNIALS
Millennials, or those born between 1982 and 1995, are making themselves known for a lot of things: avocado toast, the rise of social media influencers, and more importantly, an emphasis on pet care. As of late, Millennial spending trends have turned towards premium, high-quality food for their loyal companions. Since this shift, name brands like Pedigree and Nestle’s Purina (just to name two) have suffered, according to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal.
In fact, this emphasis on feeding your animals high-quality food has affected annual household spending on pet food by 36% between 2007 and 2017. Thus, the popularized descriptor, “human-grade,” was circulated through new pet-food brands—of which, there were 4,500 that appeared in 2017, according to GfK. “Human-grade” puts a spotlight on what exactly we’ve been feeding our animals over the last decade. If we, their “loving” and responsible humans, cannot eat their food, then why should our animals?
So, while Millennials are holding off on bigger commitments such as buying a house, having children, and getting married, what they won’t sacrifice is having a pet, and keeping their wellbeing in tip-top shape.
PROPER PET HYDRATION
The same goes with their hydration. If we spend this much time and effort researching, finding and providing our pets with the best-quality pet food money can buy, then why not do the same with their water quality? Besides, anything they consume, whether it’s food or water, affects every cell in their body. So, don’t turn a blind eye to one of the most important sustenance in a living being’s life—water.
You might recall one of our February blogs covering National Love Your Pet Day and how choosing the right water can greatly affect your pet’s wellbeing. That still rings true, considering that the EPA enforces a “safe” standard for tap water that allows trace amounts of pollutants and toxins. In addition, bottled water has been shown to have harmful pollutants too, like bacteria, arsenic, fertilizer and more. And, just the same as pet-food, if you don’t want to consume it, then why make your precious pet?
PRIMO AND NATIONAL PET DAY
But, all this worry about your pet’s hydration can go away if you choose Primo® Water, which undergoes a 9-step Reverse Osmosis (RO) purification system. Through this process, our water is cleared of harmful pollutants, and especially lead. So, you can get back to what really matters—playing fetch, taking that long walk, or giving them a nice massage.
Next time you prepare to stock-up on your pet’s needs, remember that while the quality of their food is important, the quality of their water is important, too. During this National Pet Day, choosing Primo can help you put the focus back on their wellbeing in more ways than just diet and exercise. They’ll feel so good, they’ll be promoted to executive guard dog. That’s what we call The Primo Effect. Find out where you can find Primo® Water here, and tell us in the comments below how you're celebrating your pet today!
